In this stunning batik, the Buddha is taking the position of the Bhumisparsa Mudra. This position of steadfastness literally means 'taking the Earth as witness.'
The Buddha is shown with his left hand in his lap, palm facing upwards, while the fingertips of his right hand gently touch the ground. It is said that the Buddha took this position after meditating long on the problem of the cessation of suffering, and had finally resolved this problem.
The batik measures approximately 82cm x 56cm. Please note that as this is a hand finished product, there may be some slight variations in finish.
